Gypsy Jewelry
Gypsy JewelryNote: The following is scuttlebutt / rumor. We have been unable to contact the people involved directly to verify the claims that have been made. What we can say for a fact is that during the last weekend of the show, we were informed by the booth manager of Gypsy Jewelry that they had been thrown out of the fair thanks to Marietta Marcin.
Marietta Marcin lies to Journeymen
Marietta Marcin lies to Journeymen LeatherJourneymen Leather has been a staple at the Ohio Renaissance Fair and several other Faire for many years. The business itself has been around for 20 some odd years. For the many years it was at the Ohio Renaissance Fair, it has been owned and operated by Andrew and Jodi Weibel. At some point in ORF history, Andy and Jodi became the craft directors of the event. They served as both merchants and craft directors for a few years prior to Marietta Marcin’s hostile take over. I say ‘hostile’ because to listen to Marietta Marcin talk about Andy and Jodi Weibel, they were the anti-christ. To put it mildly, the woman seems not to have a positive thing to say about the couple that so many merchants loved. In all fairness to Marietta Marcin, most of the times she said negative things about the Weibels to me she appeared drunk or perhaps stoned.
O.R.F. in the Courts
There exists a belief at the Ohio Renaissance Festival that its owner is not only a lawyer, but a lawyer who has never lost a case. In fact, while my search might be incomplete I can not find that Peter Carroll is a member of the Ohio Bar. Further, I have only been able to find three cases involving the Ohio Renaissance Festival or its owner Peter Carroll within the jurisdiction where the contracts of the Ohio Renaissance Festival dictate matters be resolved.
Peter Carroll Politics
Peter Carroll’s PoliticsFrom what we can tell from public records, Peter Carroll is a republican who has strongly supported Rob Portman.
Tickets for the Ohio Renaissance Festival
Tickets for the Ohio Renaissance Festival are going up, up, up. Now about $20.00 a person plus parking. That’s right, almost a 20% increase over last year. So, when Kings Island and other similar theme parks recognize the problems with the economy and the rising gas prices, the Ohio Renaissance tickets keep going up and up. Why? Well my guess is the owner, Peter Carroll, is mainly concerned about lining his pockets in the short term, getting every little penny he can out of the event without respect to the long term effects. After all, we wouldn’t want any of those extra pennies going to the people inside the gate who build most of the village now would we?
Will there be a 2009 Season?
Will there be a 2009 Season?
Why would Jeff, long time site manager of the Ohio Renaissance Festival, warn merchants that his contract would not be renewed for the 2009 season? Why would the festival grounds be rezoned residential. Is there any truth to the rumor that Peter Carroll has plans to close the festival and turn it into a housing development?
Flea Market not Art Show
On their web site, the Ohio Renaissance Festival (O.R.F.) describes itself as having:
“Over 130 master artisans and craftsmen come from all over the country to demonstrate the lost art of their crafts at this exceptional event. All craft items must be handmade and meet specific criteria in keeping with the Renaissance time period.”
