First weekend review

Ann Frank was wrong.

Well, the first weekend of the Ohio Renaissance Festival’s 2008 season has come to an end and I have decided Ann Frank was wrong.  Author of the very well known Diary of Ann Frank, she stated firmly that beneath it all people are good.  I don’t think Slick Pete is good even deep down.  I think he is an uncaring bastard who really does like to hurt people deep down.  I think it makes him feel like a man.  I draw this conclusion due to the way he has treated people in the past and what is going on now that he met someone who will not tolerate his conduct.  Lets examine what has changed since this protest began especially those things different after the first weekend has closed.

1. Marietta Marcin was fired.  Yes, I know you might have read something different in the official ORF Inc. newsletter.  But facts are facts.  Long before that newsletter, Dan Roth from ORF staff told me she was fired and he had replaced her.  He even went so far as to state that she was fired for many of the matters brought up here.  Matters I had tried to bring up with Slick Pete previously, but got yelled at and even spit on for my troubles.

2. Partial compliance with ADA / Equal access standards – The showers now have no slip mats.  Not because Slick Pete worries about the health of people who use his showers or the about the disabled people who want, but can’t use the showers.  Nope, he spent the little money it requires to install those mats only after it was made wildly public that they were missing.  Even then, it has been reported that nobody bothered until Saturday.

Electrical service upgrades and repairs.  Some of the broken exterior electrical outlets have been replaced.  Previously, many of them were held together with duct tape and shielded from the rain with garbage bags.  Again, you heard about it here.  Evidently, it didn’t matter to Slick Pete that people could be electrocuted until this protest site.  Now, well look at he changes.

Food Covered – Previous to this protest site, food was left uncovered before sold to the public.  Bugs were free to land on it.  Birds were free to poop on it.  Now the pretzels have individual sleeves and I am willing to bet there is no more “pocket cheese”.

All in all, I think Slick Pete has got his employees running around trying to fix things as quickly as I identify them here and elsewhere.  The thing is, he has already treated so many people so poorly that the complaints, reports of violations, and even photographic evidence is coming in fast enough that I don’t think his staff will be able to keep up. Well, that and I am not making public everything I know.  Not all at once anyway.

So Slick Pete, as we close the fist weekend I have a question for you.  Have you learned your lesson yet?  Have you figured out that you just can not treat people like shit?

Change is in the air Slick Pete, but I don’t think you will ever change.  I think you are a pig through and through.  From the email I am receiving, evidently so do other people.
