Merchants petered by Carroll again!
Before the last season ended, we reported that we have been informed that the Ohio Renaissance Festival has left the dates off the 2010.  We guessed that this was there way of charging the merchants the full season’s rent while providing a shorter season.

Interfearing with Labor Relations?

Going to my mailbox is fun.  It didn’t use to be, but now that Peter Carroll and the Ohio Renaissance Festival are suing me, my mail is kind of like the crossword puzzles.  I should probably keep my mouth shut, as I seem to be receiving so very many opportunities to show the courts that Peter Carroll is the nut case that I think he is, but I kind of feel sorry for his lawyers.  So I am going to give them this one because they really need to know their client a bit more before they step in something they could have avoided.

Monster Cock and Big Boobs

Because he seems to have a fan club, as all Monster Cocks should, you will be hearing more about my Monster Cock soon.  In fact, you will soon be hearing about other Monster Cocks.  You see, I am fairly sure my son has a Monster Cock too!  It’s a young cock, but it looks fairly big for a baby.  Evidently, the monster cock gene can be passed on & I’ve decided to document his progress as his cock grows to maturity.

The Quarter Million Dollar Apology

I started this protest just prior to the 2008 season of the Ohio Renaissance Festival because I felt there were many serious concerns affecting not only participants but also the general public.  It is now a year or so later.

2010 Leases missing dates of festival?

Merchants, have you looked at your 2010 leases yet?  Just what are the dates of the festival next year?  We’ve now heard from two different merchants that leases have been made available, but they neglect to list the dates of the festival for the 2010 season.  Is this an oversight?  Is Dan Roth falling down on the job like Marietta Marcin did?  Or could there be something else going on?

Are Sponsors running away?

Before the 2009 season started, I reported that the sponsor page of the Ohio Renaissance Festival seemed to be missing several names since the previous year.

Renaissance Faire Union

“…more than half the workers were young starry-eyed volunteers, the only relatively well-paid workers being the real stars (actors portraying Queen Elizabeth and Co.) and the bouncers who patrolled the borders to keep people from sneaking in.  We peons- dancers and musicians and jugglers- were paid little and often late, and our contracts were informal and nonbinding.”

Encouragement to Craft Folk

The other day, I was sitting in the den / office of a fairly well known and controversial author / attorney by the name of Edwin Kagin.  Edwin was showing me his extensive collection of knives and swords.  One sword he’d purchased from me without a scabbard / sheath years earlier at the Ohio Renaissance Festival.  It had a spanking new sheath on it.  Edwin Kagin explained that he had Gil Hibben make the sheath.  As Gil Hibben is one of the most famous knife makers in the world, I was flattered.

Swan Song or Conspiracy Theory?

As you might know, Peter Carroll and the Ohio Renaissance Festival are suing me for an amount listed as over a quarter of a million dollars in real world damages.  As you can tell, I am quaking in my boots.

Church & Minister sued by Peter Carroll and the Ohio Renaissance Festival

Apparently Peter Carroll and the Ohio Renaissance Festival sued a small ministry and reverend for an amount in excess of $25,000.00 in damages because the ministry dared to consider using the word “renaissance” to promote a fundraiser.  After reading the public records on this, my Catholic mother said there is a special place in hell for men like Peter Carroll.  My wife read the public records and declared “that man is a piece of work”.   I just say Peter Carroll is an Asshole.  I think that as you read more, you too will think Peter Carroll is an Asshole and the Ohio Renaissance Festival should be boycotted.

Just who is the Ohio Renaissance Festival Inc. ?

If you think you know or work for the Ohio Renaissance Festival Inc, you might be wrong.  The corporate record for the Ohio Renaissance Festival and the name Peter J. Carroll turns up some interesting information.  Apparently the Ohio Renaissance Festival is a maze of many incorporations found in Ohio, Delaware, and maybe Georgia.  Each of which seems to be Peter J. Carroll in one form or another.

Union Now !

Union NOW !  Unite NOW !

Nearly a year ago I wrote to the General Manager of the Ohio Renaissance Festival stating that I wanted access to employees and other participants for the purpose of forming a union.  She did not reply.  Since then, it has been one of my ongoing goals.  I’ve hoped that enough people would be willing to stand up and be counted that management would have to respect workers rights.  Unfortunately, management at the Ohio Renaissance Festival Inc. responded by threatening participants against working with me.  Dan Roth is even reported to have refused to issue the 2009 leases until particular merchants just about rebuked me and my efforts to bring a united front to management.

Craft show or Overpriced Fleamarket

Do you pay $20.00 to shop at a flea market?

ORF Inc. slips further into the dark at the hands of Dan Roth (the Craft Director).  At least I think he is one of the managers that escaped the recent shake up.  No they aren’t slipping into the Dark Ages, but simply into the dark.  One wonders how much further the place can slide into obscurity before it is considered yet another flea market.  You see the great strength that Renaissance Festivals have against other theme parks are quality merchants.  You are sure to see the “made in China” tag at other theme parks and it litters most flea markets, but Renaissance Festivals offer a different type of shopping.  Or at least in theory, they offer hand made goods by craftspeople whose art form existed at the time in which the festival is set.  Note, I said in theory.  This seems to no longer be the case at the Ohio Renaissance Festival and I am not the only one to notice.
