Student Days?
Looking at the web site of the Ohio Renaissance Festival, you might wonder why there is a link to “Student Days”. After all, if you follow that link you will see only one date for the 2010 season: September 30. Perhaps they should change the title to “Student Day”.
Independent Contractor or Employee ?
Do you work for the Ohio Renaissance Festival but you have been told you are an “Independent Contractor” or some such thing? Do you receive a 1099 at the end of the year instead of a W2 then you are probably being treated as an Independent Contractor.
ORF employees contact Investigator #40
ORF Inc. employees:
I have been advised that any employee of the Ohio Renaissance Festival Inc. who was not paid minimum wage or better contact Shari Hetesheimer (investigator #40) immediately. The law does provide for compensation but there is a time limit.
Student Days & Property Tax issues
Has the Ohio Renaissance Festival, its owner Peter Carroll and the small village of Harveysburg, Ohio conspired to defraud Warrant County Schools of proper property tax?
Property Tax Fraud ?
Are the rich exempt from Property Tax?
If you have participated or attended the Ohio Renaissance Festival for any number of years, chances are you’ve noticed new buildings and improvements just about every year. In most situations, these new buildings and improvements to the property would be recorded with the County Auditor for the purpose of assessing property tax amounts. That property tax would be collected and used to fund the local schools.

Real Estate Tax not Paid?
Are real-estate taxes being paid properly by ORF Inc. and Peter Carroll?
Before I get started on this issue, lets be perfectly clear about something. We are not talking about shacks or tents. Some of the buildings at the Ohio Renaissance festival have concrete floors, underground wiring, hot and cold running water, showers, and even bath tubs. Some of them have living quarters which the festival have approved. Basically, these are small cottages which sell for about $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 a peace. I have heard tell of one being offered last year for $27,000.00 but I do not know that it sold. So lets dispense with the common defense that these are temporary structures or that the village is not a permanent structure because it is only open for two months.
