Before I get started on this issue, lets be perfectly clear about something. We are not talking about shacks or tents. Some of the buildings at the Ohio Renaissance festival have concrete floors, underground wiring, hot and cold running water, showers, and even bath tubs. Some of them have living quarters which the festival have approved. Basically, these are small cottages which sell for about $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 a peace. I have heard tell of one being offered last year for $27,000.00 but I do not know that it sold. So lets dispense with the common defense that these are temporary structures or that the village is not a permanent structure because it is only open for two months.

This just in.  It seems Peter Carroll not only wants to deny equal access for the disabled, he doesn’t seem to want him in his fair.  Per contact and conversation with an employee of Silver, Stone, and Sword; the owner of this shop at the Ohio Renaissance Festival and his wife are good people.  Having known Vick (the owner) for many years, I have observed that although we have been business competitors (still are elsewhere) he has always had a kind word for me.  His wife is great with our kids and both hers and our daughter’s eyes light up when they see each other.  So imagine my surprise when I heard that Vick fired someone for having an epileptic seizure.  So surprised that I looked it into a wee bit more.

Is the duty of an employee first to his employer or is it first to his community? The courts seem to have been rather clear that it is to one’s community. Is the duty of an employee first to his employer or is it first to his family? My opinion is that it is first to one’s family.

During the process of purchasing my building from Jim and Marlena Walls, I was informed that the building was in full compliance with fire code. In fact, that building was the basis on which the construction manual for the Ohio Renaissance Festival was created. Jim Walls, one of the former Craft Directors, had been with the Ohio Renaissance Festival for years. He informed me that back in the day, the local municipality insisted on building code being met. For that reason, my building was equipped with a proper firewall, hardwired smoke detectors in every room, a circuit breaker box, proper underground wiring, an occupancy permit, and records of inspection.

I think the Ohio Renaissance Festival is un deserving of your money because of the way the owner treats people and conducts business.  I believe ORF is responsible for very serious code and health violations.  But if you absolutely have to give Peter Carroll your money and you don’t want to spend it at the many other similar events in the area, I would like to see that you line his pocket as little as possible.

As you might have figured out, I have issues with the Ohio Renaissance Festival.  In fact, I have many issues with the Ohio Ren Fest.  So I want to take a moment to recommend an alternative destination to Cincinnati, Ohio residents.  I want to talk to the folk who refer to this fair as the Cincinnati Ren Fest.

I have told you about the showers at the Ohio Renaissance Festival. I have told you about the accusations that toxic chemicals were dumped into the creek. Now I am going to tell you about rotting food being dumped routinely into the creek, left there to rot and attract pests which threaten the health of customers and participants. I am speaking of the rotten tomatoes which I have seen literally fill portions of the creek bed which runs through the Ohio Renaissance Festival.

I installed a great program which allows me to track not only how many pages we show and how many unique visitors we have, but what search terms are being used to find this protest page. I knew we had a bit of traffic, but it never occurred to me that I would see 22 unique visitors just 30 minutes after I installed the software. No, that is not a great deal of traffic even if it is only over 30 minutes. But remember that I only turned the place back on a day or two ago. Remember, that the stats program has only been on for 30 minutes. Most of all, remember that it’s 22 ‘unique visitors’ in the last 30 minutes. As you might imagine, each of those unique visitors is probably going to tell a few people who will tell a few people and… well you know how that works.

Before we start, let me tell you that I am not an electrician. I have, however, spoken to a union electrician about the problems I believe I have found at the Ohio Renaissance Festival and he is amazed that the place remains in business. He tells me the place poses a serious fire hazard as well as a threat to human life. I am inclined to believe him.

This protest site against the current management of the Ohio Renaissance Festival has gone through some management changes. I, the Former Blacksmith of the Ohio Renaissance Festival have taken over the site. Rogue One, still a close friend, has decided the issues the community had with the Ohio Renaissance Faire had been addressed when Dan Roth informed me that Marietta Marcin had been fired. Rogue One continues as a merchant ORF and would like to continue, so the website was closed for a short period of time to allow Peter Carroll to further address the many people that Marietta Marcin harmed. In my case, he did not.

For the first time in the decade or so I have been involved with the Ohio Renaissance Festival, Marietta Marcin’s first year as Craft Coordinator was the first that I can recall being witness to violent brawls, patrons falling down drunk, police, ambulances, and emergency service personal called to the annual keg drain. With all due respect to patrons, I believe the reason for the elevated troubles this year can be found in the presence of people who simply have no business being on site after hours. I know I witnessed two of them brawling, falling down drunk, and causing so much ruckus that police cars and ambulances were involved before it was over. Most of which being witnessed by many folk, including Jeff the site manager.

The Rebellion has been observed by the King and Queen of the Ohio Renaissance Festival. In fact, we believe their minions now subscribe to this blog. It seems like they are responding. In this case they seem to have responded to the accusations that they are steeling buildings by changing a policy in a way that makes it easier for them to take buildings away from people.
